I received my new HPE-570f just three days ago at this writing so I'm not going to have profound things to say. I do have a few notes that might be helpful.
This is a whole bunch of computing machine which a reader will note from the features list. The doggy part is the hard drive - Western Digital, by the way. On the other hand, huge HD's are pretty speedy compared to the days of 100GB drives even though the rotation speed is not great. Speed is the trade off for a two TB drive at this price point.
The case is metal and chunky. I'd strongly suggest you get out the screwdriver and pull the cover before doing anything. Use a flashlight and have a look at the packed innards. The reason I'm firm in my suggestion is that the hard drive connector had come loose in transit. And was a real devil to put back. If you have an eight year old who can reach through the wiring tangle you might be able to bottle up several choice words. I didn't and didn't.
While the cover was off I found that the one available PCIe slot won't take a full size card. Just too much stuff in that fairly small case. I need to put in a parallel adapter and fortunately waited before putting through my order. I found a cut away card that looks like a fit.
There is room for more drives. Since this really is a media machine, you are very likely to need more drive space fairly soon despite the 2TB drive!
Runs quietly and cool. I realize that those comments are relative. There were (3?) fans located just where I'd put them. The CPU is mounted on copper tubing and a massive heat sink. Surprised me. The power supply does not have it's own fan, but seems to be running cool enough that I can put my hand on it.
The printed setup poster is trying to cover too many computers. And wasn't completely helpful with this one. In the accessory box were two mystery baggies. Both containing the IR parts for the tuner and video player. The large, matchbox sized piece has a snap on clip poorly designed to hang the detector on the top of a monitor. At least poorly designed to mount to my HP-2511x. (Not included!) A second shiny blob has a bit of stickem on it and will eventually find a home. At the moment it is dangling on the top of the monitor. These two plug into the TV card. One connection is color coded and the other piece goes into the non coded connection. There is no antenna for the wireless connection. Works fine for me without it, but I'm only ten feet away with a clear sight to the router.
As for bloatware - I'd expected something horrendous from reading about HP computers on the net. It wasn't bad at all and with a 2TB drive I'm blowing off that stuff slowly. Norton is really the only one with deep tentacles and I've got 60 days to get around to dealing with that decision. There are several HP software things which may or may not prove to be useful. They sit there benignly until I make that decision. There are excellent uninstallers and start up managers available as freeware that will be of great assistance in making these decisions.
So, five stars because I had no surprises that I couldn't overcome. The loose connector should loose a star, but I'd been warned on other Amazon reviews of HP computers. Taking a look inside a new computer is good practice.
